Professional Biography
Sommer Robinson has dedicated more than 25 years to serving the citizens of Floyd County and the public safety communications profession. She currently serves as the Director of Floyd County 911, where she leads the agency's operations while remaining committed to the employees, community, and profession she has served since beginning her career in 2000.
Throughout her career, Sommer has advanced through nearly every level of the organization, serving as Senior Dispatcher and Training Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Training Coordinator, Assistant Director, and ultimately Director in 2021. She has also served part-time with Gordon County 911 and Polk County 911, experiences that broadened her understanding of emergency communications and strengthened her commitment to serving Georgia's 9-1-1 community.
Sommer earned her Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Reinhardt University and is a Georgia P.O.S.T. Certified Instructor. She is passionate about training and mentoring the next generation of 9-1-1 professionals and considers helping others grow into confident public safety communicators one of the most rewarding aspects of her career.
Although her responsibilities have evolved over the years, Sommer remains a dispatcher at heart. She continues to work the console whenever possible, believing that staying connected to daily operations helps her better support both her employees and the community they serve.
As Vice President of the Georgia 9-1-1 Directors Association, Sommer is dedicated to fostering collaboration among Georgia's Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), supporting professional development, and strengthening the partnerships that advance emergency communications throughout the state.
Outside of her professional responsibilities, Sommer enjoys spending time with her husband, Brandon, and their three daughters. When she has the opportunity to relax, she enjoys traveling to the beach, where she recharges before returning to the profession she has loved for more than two decades.
